Your Wedding And PAT Testing
Trust is an important thing when it comes to marriage and the same should be said for when you are hiring contractors, DJs and venues for your big day. There are many different guidlines and certificates of accredidation out there but one subject you may not have thought about is PAT Testing.
The legal requirements for regular testing of all electrical appliances in work places and public places have made testing a new growth area for electricians in recent years. Employers are also training up existing employees like janitors so they can perform PAT testing in house.
Electrical shocks caused by electric appliances or electrical installations could lead to injuries from falls. Badly installed or faulty appliances put employees at risk as they may result in fires and give electric shocks. This means that, although the current recommended portable appliance testing methods, record keeping and testing frequencies are considered to be best practice to make sure electrical equipment is maintained properly, they are not ‘legal requirements’.
The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, workers and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger comes from the use of such equipment. Many companies implement a program of maintenance, inspection and testing of portable appliances.
A PAT testing training course will teach you pat testing methods and ways to use PAT testing equipment. Once training is complete the student will be able to test safely and without harm to others. Special training in the testing of sensitive computer equipment and appliances with mains filters would be a necessity for some roles.
PAT testing training courses consist of learning the legal aspects, hazard training, user checks, visual inspections, fuses, construction of the different class portable appliances, power tools and extension leads.
